The primary difference between a fetus and a newborn baby is that without the umbilical cord, a fetus would be unable to survive. Until birth, a fetus gets all of its oxygen and nutrients directly from its mother’s body. The fetus is not an independent being.
A newborn earns the title of baby when it is born. It is only at birth that one becomes an independent being. Fetuses are aborted much before they are born into babies. In fact, 99.92% of abortions are performed within the first 24 weeks, a full 16 weeks before birth.
Whatever your opinion on abortion may be, telling people that in having an abortion they are killing a baby is incorrect. When a woman has an abortion, she aborts her dependent fetus, she does not kill any babies.
